Bio:
Marla is a Neo-Soul Singer/Songwriter and Artist with a BAMu in Opera. She has been called “The next big Canadian voice”. Marla has spent her career travelling the world, writing music, working with amazing producers and mentors, and performing. Her vocals have drawn comparisons to Gaga, Tori Amos and even Beyonce.
In the spring of 2020, she was living in Sevilla, Spain, creating her biggest, most personal work yet, a Musical. When the Corona Virus hit, the country shut down without warning, and she was stranded. It was her hometown, Calgary friends who helped her get home to safety. She is currently still living in Calgary, working with the Alberta Playwrights Network, editing her Musical Comedy “Sinner” for a Summer 2022 debut.
From singing back-up for household names, to co-writing with pop, trap, folk, broadway and Neo-soul Artists, to connecting with her own loyal international following through her virtuosic, yet vulnerable, authentic vocal style, Marla has had a big career. Refusing to abandon herself, when fame was offered at too high a price, Marla is once again on the doorstep of greatness, and this time, she’s in the driver’s seat. With her quick whit and virtuosic vocal, Marla truly is a talent unto herself.
